I honestly didn't realize how much love and respect I felt for your
mother until I saw her obituary. She was the "cool" mother who shopped in Altoona. She was
proactive and ahead of her time in Hopewell. She always made me welcome. And she was s great friend to my mother. She kept everything in Tupperware. When she laughed or smiled, her whole face lit up and her eyes twinkled. She was so fiercely independent and had no problem expressing her opinions and thoughts. She had an exotic beauty. She looked different and thought differently than her peers, but she emphasized her uniqueness. Very brave. She helped at Church and tried to get us to look and found like the angels we were not! Her involvement in the Senior Citizens Center changed the lives of many and they depended on her to keep it going.
I loved your mother. She was the best influence on me I could have had! My regret is that I did not realize all this while she was alive...I should have told her. But if she can hear me now-and I am sure she can-she knows!

Susie - I am so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you because I know how close you were and how much your mom was a part of your life. Be thankful for that and for all the years and special times you had together. Not many can say they were as good of a daughter as you have been. Sending you big hugs.

Merriam was a vivacious, beautiful woman, a helpful neighbor, and a faithful friend to my late mother and to me as well, though I was 15 years her junior. She was forever young. As a teenager, I looked forward to her entry to church on Sunday mornings impeccably dressed and looking fabulous. She had an infectious laugh--quick to find humor, but never at the expense of others. Merriam had an indomitable spirit, a feminist quality that set her apart and ahead of her time. Her position at the Senior Center no doubt provided purpose and gratification for her high intellect. I feel privileged to have known Merriam, and her departure leaves yet another void in the fast-disappearing world of my youth. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to Lonnie, Christa, Kerry, and Susan and their families.

Grandnew, I miss you more than words can say. It's starting to sink in more today. You always had a twinkle in your eyes when Justin and I were around. And when you laughed the twinkle was more prominent. Every time I eat lime jello and lemon cake I will be thinking of you. I have so many memories of being with you, like when you would walk around the house in only your underclothes or when you would back up the off ramp because it was the wrong one and even when I would go to visit you at the Senior Center and I get to bring a Huge stuffed animal home. I could go on and on with all of my memories but I'm especially thankful that my baby girl Cassidy got to grow up and know you for 14yrs of her life. I Love You Always and Forever Grandnew.❤️❤️

Merriam was a ray of sunshine in our family's lives. She and my parents enjoyed many trips together and my mother always considered her a good friend. They would spend hours talking on the phone and laughing. He spunk and independence made her unique and loved by all.

Prayers for you and your family. May she rest in peace.
