Wm Gary Smith Obituary

Wm Gary Smith, 75, of Providence Street, Everett, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.  He was born on December 4, 1945 in Mattie; a son of the late Ivan L. “Ipe” Smith, Sr. and Velma Irene (Ritchey).  On August 24, 1963 in Clearville, PA; he was united in marriage to Patty (Lynch). 

Along with his wife of fifty-seven years he is survived by children Nancy Diehl, Marsha married to Jeff Hershberger, Steven Smith and partner Tim Kleve, Jenny married to Corey Clark; son-in-law Robert Barton and his wife Wanda (Wolford); brother, Ivan L. Smith, Jr. married to Dorothy (Walter) and numerous nieces and nephews. 

His favorite job was being Pappy to his grandchildren Emily (Clayton), Courtney (Dakota), Seth, Evan, Erik and great granddaughter Ellie; and also three step grandchildren Isaiah, Ethan and Noah Clark. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter Kelly Barton and a brother James A. Smith. 

Gary was in the Everett High School Class of 1963.  He was a member of the Everett United Methodist Church, having served on various boards and committees for numerous years.  He also served as a trustee at the Crystal Spring Camp Meeting Association and on the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association board. 

He was employed over the years at Hinish Feed and Farm Supply, was an independent truck driver for Everett Trucking, and worked for Showalter Masonry. 

Gary enjoyed woodworking, was always willing to lend his handyman skills and services to anyone in need, and was an avid PSU football fan. 

Family and Friends may call at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 3-8 P.M. and on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home. 

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, Everett with Pastor David Calovi and Pastor Carl Schmidt officiating. 

Burial will be held in Clearville Union Cemetery
