William M. Brode

William M. Brode, 85, of Broad Top Mountain Road, Saxton; passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020 at home.  He was born on July 30, 1934 in Saxton, Pennsylvania; a son of the late William H. and Dolly M. (Carberry) Brode.  On December 23, 1961 in the Bible Deliverance Center by the Rev. Harrison Miller he was united in marriage to Judith A. (Leabhart) Brode. 

Along with his wife of fifty-eight years he is survived by two sons William Brian Brode married to Rebecca (Young), Saxton and Michael Todd Brode married to Connie (Griffith), Saxton; four grandchildren Jacquelyn Brode, Laura Brode, William Philip Brode and Nathan Brode; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved and cared for.

He was the last surviving member of his family; he was preceded in death by siblings Robert L. Brode, Harold D. Brode and June Lemin.

Bill was a graduate of Saxton –Liberty High School Class of 1953.  He had an unwavering love for God and his family.  He was a member of the Oasis of Love Church, Saxton.

Mr. Brode served as member and treasurer for the following organizations, Broad Top Development, The Bible Deliverance Center, Tussey Mountain Mat Club, Little Valley Sportsman’s, Robertsdale Lions Club and had previously served two terms on the Tussey Mountain School Board.

Bill enjoyed working on the family sawmill throughout his life.  Following high school graduation he worked construction. In1967, he then began his career with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, starting as toll collector and retiring in July 1995 as an Assistant District Manager.

After retirement Bill spent his time traveling with his wife on bus trips and going on cruises.  He spent countless hours volunteering his time to assist family members with their projects, and assisting with the building of the ticket booth, field house and press box at the Tussey Mountain School along with many projects at his church.  He would faithfully attend his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until the hour of service at Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA  16678.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in the Akers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kathy Speck officiating.

Burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
