William R. Blake

William R. Blake, 92, of Hopewell, PA; passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.  He was born on July 17, 1930 in Hopewell, PA; a son of the late Ernest F. and Olive (Eltman) Blake.  On March 4, 1950 in Hopewell United Methodist Church, he was united in marriage to Mona C. (Chisholm) Blake.

Along with his wife of seventy-three years, he is survived by children Denise Browell married to Dennis, Hopewell, PA; Mickey Blake married to Mindy, Hopewell, PA and Penny Bussard married to Ken, Ebensburg, PA; grandchildren Doug Browell married to Lisa; Darren Browell married to Sonya; Mitchell Blake; Nickie Baker married to Adam; Blake Bussard and fiancé Stephanie; great grandchildren Jarod married to Devon, Kaycee married to Zach, Avery, Maddie, Adelynn and Hadley Baker; great great grandchildren Ethan, Hunter and Owen Browell; siblings Betty Lou Foor and Gerry Stitt and a brother-in-law David Chisholm.

He was preceded in death by siblings Ernest Blake, Jr., Annie Zimmerman, Mary Jane Henry and Ginny Grace.

William was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church and attended Bedford Forge United Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Robert P. Smith High School Class of 1948.

He retired in 1992 after thirty-eight years with New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company as a foreman and superintendent.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, mowing his lawn and gathering hickory nuts to feed his squirrels.  He was an avid Penn State, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. 

Friends and Family may call at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 4-8 P.M. and on Thursday at the funeral home from noon until the hour of service.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Bonnie Burr officiating.

Burial will be held privately at Hopewell Cemetery.
