Walter K. Smith, Jr.

Walter K. Smith, Jr., 77, of Raystown Road, Hopewell, PA; passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.  He was born in Huntingdon, PA; on November 12, 1946; a son of the late W. Kenneth and Thelma R. (Shauf) Smith.  On August 13, 1966 in Milesburg, PA; he was united in marriage to Anna Mary (Dorman) Smith.

Along with his wife of fifty seven years, he is survived by daughter Tammy J. married to Ross B. Kimmel, sister-in-law Kay Teeters, brother-in-law Ray Dorman and wife Robin, along with many cousins.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Holly Dawn Smith and a brother-in-law William Teeters.

Walter was a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School Class of 1964.  He served in the United States Army Reserves for eighteen years.  He worked at Carbaugh Petroleum, owned and operated Kountry Kettle, Barkman Oil Company, Bedford County Oil, and presently employed by Health Ride Plus.

He was a longtime member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church, where he was very active.  He enjoyed watching Nascar and the Pittsburgh Steelers, but most of all being with his family.

He was a loving husband, son and father who will be greatly missed by all who loved him and knew him.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service at 2:00 P.M. at the Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA 16678.  

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Julie Rosensteel and Pastor Gary Boor officiating.

Burial will be held privately.

If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made in memory of Walter to the Akers Funeral Chapel to assist the family with expenses.
