Susan Jean (Koontz) Kanouff, age 76 of New Paris, passed away peacefully at UMPC Altoona hospital on January 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Susan was born in Bedford on June 10, 1949, the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Adreal (Tewell) Koontz of Everett. Susan graduated from Everett Area School District in 1967. She was united in marriage to Nathan Kanouff on April 30, 1976 in Everett. During her lifetime, Susan worked as a beautician and also worked as a manager of a hotel in Bedford. For several years, the couple served as foster parents. During that time, Susan was a homemaker and stay at home mom. After raising their son, Susan decided to re-enter the workforce and became a driver for Maxwell Transportation. During her time at Maxwell Transportation, Susan developed a special relationship with a young boy named Matthew, one of her students. Susan frequently spoke fondly of Matthew in conversations with her family.
Susan is survived by her husband Nathan Kanouff, son Brett Kanouff and girlfriend Leah, sister Paula, wife of Duane Manges, nephew Troy Potts, husband of Sondra, nephew Trent Potts, husband of Lesley Potts, and great nieces and nephews Michael Potts, Alexis Manges, Mason Potts and Cali Potts. Her great nieces and nephews always had a special place in Susan’s heart and she cherished every moment she got to spend with them. She enjoyed spending time with all the children she knew and enjoyed her local travels. Susan was a woman with a huge heart, and she cared deeply for others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
At the request of Susan, there will be no services held.
