Steven Myers Obituary

Captain Steven C. Myers, USN (retired), 78, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Bedford Post Acute after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born September 6, 1946, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Richard S. and Phillis (Eichelberger) Myers.  In Newport, RI, on November 22, 1968, he married Susan E. McDowell of Philadelphia, who survives, along with a son, Benjamin R. Myers, of Virginia, and a brother, Captain Richard T. Myers, USN (retired), of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Tim’s wife, Mary. 

Steve attended Admiral Farragut Academy and Dickinson College. After graduation from Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI and the Defense Language Institute in California, he began a 32-year career which focused on naval intelligence and included overseas assignments in Germany, Spain, and the Republic of Panama where he commanded a Naval security group activity, as well as tours of duty in surface ships, submarines and aerial reconnaissance flights.  Ashore, his assignments included duty at the Pentagon, two tours at Headquarters, Naval Security Group Command, and two tours at the National Security Agency.  His personal military decorations include the Legion of Merit, two awards of the Defense Superior Service Medal, two awards of the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Naval and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. He wore the US Navy Command Ashore Badge and the badge of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. 

In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and his cat, Phoebe, and returning to a lifelong interest in writing poetry and fiction which yielded two published anthologies of his poems and one historical fiction novel. 

Services will be held privately.  If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Steve to the Parkinson’s Foundation or a Parkinson’s charity of your choice or to the Everett Senior Center.
