Shirley Taylor Obituary

Shirley L. Taylor, 89, of Artemas, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.  She was born on December 6, 1936, in Artemas, PA, she was a beloved daughter of the late Lester and Daisy (Sirbaugh) Day. Shirley was first united in marriage to Grant Smith, who preceded her in death. She later shared many wonderful years with William L. “Bill” Taylor, until his passing on June 14, 2016.

She is survived by a daughter Bonnie Amos married to Tim, Schellsburg; grandchildren Tracey and Michael; nieces Wilma Padfield, Wannetta Huff married to Kenny and nephew Darryl Day; great niece Tina Nicol married to Codi and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by son Mark E. Smith and a brother Richard Day.

Shirley was a woman of Christian faith who loved serving and connecting with her community. She was an active member of the Artemas V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and dedicated her time to her civic duty on the Mann Township Election Board.

For several years, Shirley worked at Lions Manufacturing in Everett. Later in life, she worked alongside her husband, Bill, assisting him with the operations of his dry walling business. Outside of work, Shirley loved socializing and could often be found enjoying the company of friends at some of her favorite local spots, including Mike’s, Road Kill, and Bellegrove.

Her family extends their heartfelt appreciation and a special thanks to all of Shirley's friends for the immense love, care, and support they provided over the past couple of years.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, June 15, 2026 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Mowry officiating.

Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Artemas.

If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley to the Bennett Cemetery Association.
