Shirley M. (Hanks) Shaw

Shirley M. Shaw, 88, of Everett, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.  She was born on September 28, 1935 in Fulton County; a daughter of the late Harry N. and Elizabeth M. (Garlick) Hanks.  In 1955 in Fulton County she was united in marriage to Bernard W. Shaw.  He preceded her in death on June 7, 2007.

She is survived by six children Dennis Shaw, Fairbanks, AK; Donna Wertz married to Eugene, Bedford; Delma Waltemire married to Randy, Everett; Deanna Morse married to Kenny, Everett; Darcy Foor and late husband Kevin, Everett; Dale B. Shaw married to Lisa, Everett; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two great grandchildren and the following siblings Harold, Vera, Galen, Wayne, Thelma and Harry.

She was a graduate of Southern Fulton High School.

Shirley worked as a waitress for numerous restaurants in the area for many years including the Surf Room and Gateway Restaurant.

She was a founding member of the Breezewood V.F.W. Post 8333 Ladies Auxiliary, where she was past president and was also a member of the Everett American Legion Post. No. 8 Ladies Auxiliary.  Shirley enjoyed reading, watching birds, watching old westerns and flowers.

She was a loving mother and grandmother; she cherished time spent with her family. A special thanks to her granddaughter Danielle for being grandma's caregiver  and to the hospice team that was so kind and caring.

Friends and Family will be received on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 12-4:00 P.M. at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537.  The V.F.W. Auxiliary will hold services at 3:45 P.M.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Pat Murphy officiating.

If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
