Samuel Foreman Obituary

Samuel R. Foreman, 85 of Bedford, PA; passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Homewood in Martinsburg, PA.  He was born on August 29, 1939 in Snake Spring Township, a son of the late Bernard Lee and Rachel (Cessna) Foreman.  On December 14, 1963 in Patton, PA; he was united in marriage to Kathryn (Nave) Foreman.

Along with his wife of 61 years, he is survived by two sons, Brian Foreman married to Lisa (Buckingham), Westminster, MD and Brett Foreman married to Toya (Hunter), Caddo Mills, TX; grandchildren Colin Foreman (Meghan), Allison Foreman, Devin Foreman (Deaira), and Hunter Foreman; great grandchildren Aaliyah, Ava, and Dawn Foreman; and siblings William Foreman married to Joann, Thomas Foreman married to Karen, and Sheila May married to Barry.

He was preceded in death by siblings Richard Foreman, Martha Jane Hershberger, Charles Henry “Hank” Foreman and James Foreman.

Mr. Foreman was a graduate of Bedford High School Class of 1957.

He proudly served as an Avionics Technician in the United States Air Force from May, 1957 until May, 1963 during the Cold War.  After his discharge, he spent his career working as a central office repair technician for the United Telephone in Bedford, later for the Breezewood Telephone Company, and finally retiring from Sprint in Greenville, NC.

Sam was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ (now Reformed Church), Bedford.  He served multiple terms as a member of the church consistory.

In Sam’s early adulthood, he participated in the Schellsburg ISL as a member of the Hartley Bank squad, winning the 1964, 1965, and 1966 championships.  After his playing days were over, he coached and later managed both of his sons on the Hedstrom team in the Bedford Little League.  He took up the game of golf in his later years, scoring no less than five (5) aces on various occasions, including one a day too late to win a brand-new truck.

He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge F.&A. M. No. 320, reaching the level of Master Mason.  He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113, and the Bedford Lions Club.

Friends and family will be received for a viewing on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 with Pastor Robert Hershberger officiating.

Burial will be held at Woods Church Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Bedford Area Honor Guard.
