Ruth Anna Mearkle

Ruth Anna Mearkle, 87, of Raystown Road, Everett, PA; passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.  She was born on May 24, 1934 in Jacks Corner, PA; a daughter of the late Dwight Fink and Laverne Belle (Casteel) College.  On May 31, 1952 in Winchester, VA; she was united in marriage to Melvin E. Mearkle.  He preceded her in death in 1998.

She is survived by two children Rev. Dr. Rickey Mearkle and wife Aimee of England, Cynthia Musselman and husband Donald, Hopewell; grandchildren Daniel Mearkle and wife Nicola, Jason Musselman and wife Margaret, Dr. Rachel Mearkle-Mist and husband Paul, Dr. David Mearkle and wife Anusha and Caleb Musselman and wife Theresa; great grandchildren Jessica and William Mearkle, Sumer, Abbott, Otto, and Reed Musselman, Elizabeth and Ethan Mearkle-Mist, Jesse and Raffy Mearkle and a great grandchild arriving in October.

She was preceded in death by siblings John Casteel, Sara Shimer and Donald College; step-father William College and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Mearkle.

Ruth Anna attended Everett High School.

She was a former member of the First Christian Church where she served on many committees.  She then became a member of the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren where she helped with the Fabric of Faith Ministry.

Ruth Anna worked with her lifelong friend Bernice K. Detwiler at the Loysburg Flower Shop.  She later owned and operated Mom and Me Flower and Antiques for ten years.

She loved traveling the world, especially her trips to England to visit family and friends.  She enjoyed her time as a Northern Bedford Band parent and the kids that became family.  Family was everything to her.  She loved her trip to the beach with her her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Family and Friends may call at the Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 4-7 P.M. and on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Rev. Robert R. Robertson officiating.

Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery.
