Richard Heister Obituary

Richard W. Heister, 80, of Hopewell, PA; passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.  He was born on July 10, 1944 in Hopewell, PA; a son of the late William E. and Pearl (Pittman) Heister.  On June 6, 1964 in the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren he was united in marriage to Eunice O. (Morris) Heister.  She preceded him in death on October 23, 2013.

He is survived by his children Michael Heister, Hopewell, PA; Tammy Stroz married to Ed, Bedford, PA; Johnny Heister and companion Tammy Hoover, Hopewell, PA; Kathy Diehl married to William, Hopewell, PA; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; siblings Harry Heister, Sally Perrin married to Ron and Monty Heister married to Mila. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter Jody Zelanko.

Richard was of the Brethren faith.  He was employed as an equipment operator with PennDOT for over thirty years until his retirement.  He enjoyed hunting and had a soft spot for good hunting dogs. He also enjoyed fishing and collecting pocket knives which he always had with him to whittle.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. 

Friends and Family will be received on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA  15537 from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Lingenfelter officiating.

Burial will be held at Yellow Creek Reformed Cemetery.
