Rev. Jay A. Saxe, 90, recently of Port Matilda and formerly of Everett, PA, passed away on Monday September 29, 2025 at Wynwood House, State College, PA. He was born on August 19, 1935 in Sweet Valley, PA; a son of the late Rev. Oscar W. Saxe and Jessie D. (Harvey) Saxe. On July 6, 1957, he was united in marriage to Nancy E. (Oliver) Saxe in Hunlock Creek, PA. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2025.
Jay was a graduate of Shickshinny High School Class of 1953, Lycoming College in 1957 and Wesley Theological Seminary in 1960. He completed additional studies at United Theological Seminary.
Rev. Saxe served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church for 58 years, retiring in 1997. Following his retirement, he continued to actively serve the Stevens Chapel/Clearville United Methodist parish. He was a member of the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church where he held various positions over the years. He also served Lions Club International for 70 years.
He is survived by his children, Steven F. Saxe married to RoseAnn (Mastalski), New Enterprise, PA; and Laurie A. Richards married to Randall, Port Matilda, PA; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and five sisters.
Friends and family will be received on October 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM, at the Everett United Methodist Church, 221 East Main Street, Everett, PA 15537.
Burial will be held privately.
