Paul C. Stup, 86, of Clearville, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord on October 9th, 2024, at Bedford Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born June 18, 1938 in Adamstown, Maryland, the son of George and Pauline Stup.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblingsGeorge, Natalie, and June. He is survived by two sisters,Marietta and Carol.
Paul is survived by Helen, his wife of 66 years, one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Stup and Jamie Lloyd of Berryville, VA and three sons and daughters-in-law: David and Penny Stup of Clearville, PA; Edward and Pamela Stup of Enola, PA; and Richard and Melissa Stup of Ithaca, NY.
In addition to his children, Paul is survived by 10 grandchildren: Stephen Rumbaugh, Christina Grimes, Jennifer Ramsey, Kristen Batcho, Megan Billie, Carter Stup, Lauren Stup, Rebecca Stup, Allison Stup, and Julia Stup, and 9 great-grandchildren. To the grandchildren, he was affectionately known as “Pap Pap or Pap.”
Paul attended Frederick High School in Frederick, Maryland. He was an extremely well read and largely self-educated man, with a relentless curiosity about the world and a passion for history. He was also a great conversationalist, who could make friends easily and would happily talk for hours on end.
He was a dairy farmer and deeply committed to advancing the industry he loved. He was very active in the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, serving for many years on the Bedford County board of directors and on the statewide promotion and education committee. He was known in his community as a leader and person who was willing to help all who were in need.
Paul retired in 2002 from dairy farming with his oldest son David. He and Helen spent time traveling around the U.S. for a period of several years. He was active in the Lions Club. He loved large family gatherings, western movies, baseball and horse races. He was a regular at the local Clearville gathering spot, Mike’s Place.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Clearville, PA for many years, serving as a church leader, and later of First Christian Church of Everett, PA.
Friends and Family will be received on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 4-7 P.M. at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Rev. Robert R. Robertson officiating.
Burial will be held at Clearville Union Cemetery.
