Omer "Blackie" H. Black

Omer H. “Blackie” Black, 97 of Saxton, PA passed away on November 19, 2025 with his family by his side.  He was born on February 02, 1928, the son of the late Forest and Nora (Levelle) Black.  He was united in marriage to Patricia L. (Friedhoff) Black on October 15, 1949 in Dudley, PA.  She preceded him in death on April 09, 2011.

He is survived by his children, Omer H. Black, Jr., of Bloserville, PA; Jodi Crooks married to Kim, Gettysburg, PA and Brad Black of Gettysburg, PA; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Eugennie Treece and all his siblings.

Omer was a 1945 graduate of Robertsdale High School.   In his early teens, he worked in coal mines to help his family financially, transporting water and fuel into the mines.  He served in the United States Army from 1946-1947 as a Corporal.  He later started his career with Penelec as a lineman and retired as Superintendent of Lines for Bedford County in 1986.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dudley, a life member of Watson Black American Legion Post 126, Broad Top.  He served as a scoutmaster for many years.  Omer enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing; he fished up to his 96th birthday.  He was passionate about his family and grandchildren.

A private service will be held with burial privately at Ave Maria Catholic Cemetery.
