Olive F. (Deremer) Calhoun, formerly of Breezewood, PA, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Nancy’s Personal Care Home, Osterburg, where she was lovingly cared for by Nancy (Steve) Williams and staff.
She was born on April 22, 1940, a daughter of the late C. Melvin “Mike” and Mabel Olive (Brantner) Deremer. On February 23, 1962, in Winchester, VA, she was united in marriage to Roy E. “Sonny” Calhoun, who preceded her in death on July 10, 2015.
She is survived by daughters Beverly Geller (Gary), Schellsburg; Rebecca Smith (Frank Brumbaugh), Schellsburg, and Peggy Akers (Jeromy Arcq), Hopewell; grandchildren Jason Geller (Taci), Andrew Smith (Sara), Kevin Smith (Kyra), Olivia Rohm (Matthew), Trevor Akers (Adriana Ammerman), Raechel Arcq (Tom Wickel), Raelyne Arcq (Nick Miller); great-grandchildren Emma, Riley, Raelynn, Leland, Korbin, Kohen, and Owen. An additional great-grandchild is expected to arrive in early 2026. Olive is survived by siblings Thomas Deremer (late Melinda) and Linda Ennis (late Ralph); brother and sisters-in-law Ruby (late Albert) Calhoun, Sara (late C Melvin Jr) Deremer, Guy Calhoun (late Mary), and Donna Calhoun (late Nile).
She was preceded in death by siblings Andrew, Carl, James, John, C. Melvin, Jr, and Mary Riddle.
Olive was a graduate of Everett Southern High School, class of 1958. Over the years, she worked at the Breezewood McDonald’s, service stations in Breezewood and Everett, and later at Wal-Mart. She loved serving her community as a member of the Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. Olive loved baking, making candy, and enjoyed gardening with her favorites being strawberries, Gladiolus, and Dahlias.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 3-7 P.M. at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537. On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, a viewing will be held at 9 A.M. prior to a funeral service at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Snyder officiating.
Burial will be held privately at Union Memorial Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Olive to the Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, 249 Ponderosa Road, Schellsburg, PA 15559.
