Merle "Whitey" D. Shipley

Merle D. “Whitey” Shipley, 78, of Big Creek Road, Clearville, PA; passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Pennknoll Village.  He was born on September 30, 1946 in Everett, PA; a son of the late Earl and Wilma Ihrie (Barnes) Shipley.  He was formerly married to Mary (Spicer) Shipley of Bedford.

Along with Mary, he is survived by children Christy Thomas married to Jeffery, Princeton, NC; Earl D. “Bobby” Shipley married to Mia (Ritchey), Breezewood, PA; and Dustin E. Shipley, Breezewood, PA; grandchildren Jesse Shipley married to Tia, Jade Shipley, Nicholas Breisch; great grandchildren Ryker Shipley, Evelyn Shipley and Elias Shipley; a brother Robert Shipley married to Lorraine and his close friend and roommate Randy Arthur at Pennknoll.

He was preceded in death by a son Donald S. Shipley and sister Susan (Shipley) Mathis.

Whitey was affiliated with the Bethel and Fairview Christian Churches.  He spent his career as an owner/operator truck driver and had worked for D & L Utilities as a lineman.  He served as Mann Township Supervisor.

Mr. Shipley took pride in all that he did; he enjoyed helping others in the community, hunting, keeping his automobiles spotless and was a big Nascar fan especially, Dale Earnhardt.  He was a wonderful father and grandfather.

Friends and Family may call at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 5-8 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Jonas Smith officiating.

Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery.
