Mary Jane Miller

Mary Jane “Janie” Miller, 79, left the world peacefully on Monday June 10, 2024 after a sudden fall on Saturday June 8th. Her family is saddened to announce the passing of a fiercely independent matriarch who stubbornly navigated life on her own terms. 

Janie leaves behind a legacy of strong opinions, unwavering loyalty, closets full of fabulous clothes and the recipe for what is widely agreed upon to be the best Christmas snack mix in history. Janie was a lover of all creatures great and small, especially scraggly faced dogs, fat and sneezy cats, and her spirit animal the turtle. She lived each day with fiery determination and an unyielding grit.

Janie is survived by her patient husband and counterpart of 49 years and 345 1/2 days, Shelby “Chip” Miller, her three diverse children, Amy, Aaron, and Anelise, grandchildren Tryston and Kyleigh, and her older sister, Marcia. All of the above can undoubtedly share tales of her spirited ways.

Notably, the family recalls her most cherished role as a 30 year Naval spouse. Although she held many jobs during her life, that was her longest and one that brought her immense pride and joy.  It also allowed Janie and Shelby to raise their family in her hometown, Everett. She loved the community and the neighborly support of loved ones for their family. 

Janie was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Walter King, whom she adored and spoke of daily. Though her absence leaves a mountainous void, her memory as a strong willed backbone of a family will forever be cherished and regaled through the strength, laughter and love she brought into the lives of so many. 

Friends and Family will be received on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Rev. Robert R. Robertson officiating.
