Marvin Simmons Obituary

Marvin Eugene Simmons, also known as Gene, passed peacefully at 93 years old on May 31, 2025 at his home in Artemas, Pennsylvania.

Born December 21, 1931, Gene spent his early years in Washington, DC and later lived in Maryland. He then spend his last 40+ years, after building his own home by hand with his friends and family, in Artemas, Pennsylvania with many good times and treasured memories made! He loved his home in the mountains, gardening, reading, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends. A fun loving and outgoing person, Gene had a great sense of humor, loved a good adventure, and held unconditional love for all of his family and friends. He lived a full life and will be greatly missed by those who loved him and knew him. He was truly a remarkable person with many a great stories and the love he generously shared.

Gene’s service to his country was marked by his proud service in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Gene was born on December 21, 1931, the son of Walter Phillip Simmons and Blanche Edith Simmons (Johnston). Along with his parents, he will be greeted in Heaven by his oldest son Michael Eugene Simmons and his loving sister Margurite Lois Shomette. Survived by his dear older brother Walter Marshall Simmons (whom he called Pal), and by his children: Cheryl Ann Simmons, Scott Howard Simmons married to Vivienne, and John Phillip Simmons, married to Michelle; his grandchildren Katlyn Simmons, Kirstin Jenkins (Brennen Jenkins), Alexandra Manolakos (Dan Dicce), and Taylor Matrone (Mike Matrone), along with his great grandson Jaxon Matrone. He is also survived by his nephews Donald Shomette and Dale Shomette, his dear love Patricia Ann Fusco (Simmons/Poehlman), and predeceased by his nephew David Simmons.

Family and friends are invited to Gene’s Memorial Service at Akers Funeral Home Inc. at 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Mike Benner officiating.  There will be a time of visitation from 11:30 A.M. until the time of service.  Full military honors will be conducted by the Everett Area Honor Guard at Noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gene may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
