Mabel King Obituary

Mabel L. King, 93, of West Fourth Street, Everett, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at home.  She was born on February 11, 1925 in Shade Township, Somerset, Pennsylvania; a daughter of the late George and Helena (Long) Bowser.  On July 9, 1964 she was united in marriage to Quentin S. “Pete” King. He preceded her in death after forty-eight years of marriage.  She is survived by children Rudy Plummer married to Judy, Bedford, PA, Ron Plummer married to Sue, Everett, PA and Lisa Pejack, Everett, PA; step-daughter LaDonna Butts married to Andy, Concord, North Carolina; grandchildren Megan Smiley, Edward Plummer, Ryan Plummer, Andrew Pejack, Rachel Pejack, Kimberly Teague, Scott Butts, and Julie Dobbin; nine great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by siblings Joseph Bowser, Agnes Tew, Verna Welsh, Florence Shaver, Gertrude Good, Martha Kegg, Bertha Tew, Lloyd Bowser and infant brother Howard Bowser and a step-son Terry G. King.

Mrs. King was a graduate of Shade Township High School Class of 1943. She retired in 1980 from H. and P. Store and had previously worked at Maurice’s Department Store, the cafeteria staff at the Everett High School, a clerk at Western Auto, at Singer Sewing Machine Company, as a cook at Timmon’s Hospital, and after retirement worked as a seamstress in her own home.

She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Friends Cove where she helped with Ladies Aide and served as a Lay Minister.  She was previously a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ of Everett where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

She served as a den mother Cub Scout Pack 72, Everett for many years and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Reverend William Shrout and Pastor John Bennett officiating.

Burial will be held in Everett Cemetery.

If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mabel to Home Nursing Agency-Hospice, 201 Chestnut Avenue, P.O. Box 352, Altoona, PA  16603-0352.
