Lula Karns Obituary

Following a weekend surrounded by most of her loving family, Lula M. Karns, 86, of Colonel John Drive, Hopewell, passed on to her rewards early Monday morning, April 26, 2021.

Born July 25, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Seibert and Carrie (Ritchey) Foor of Everett. On July 20, 1959 in Winchester, VA, she married the late James Ralph Karns who passed away August 27, 2018 after fifty-nine years of marriage.

Surviving are the following children: Sharon, wife of Paul Price of Everett; Brenda, wife of George “Vince” Beach of Hopewell; and Dale, husband of Tammy (Mort) of Six Mile Run. She had six Grandchildren, Amanda and Jason, Bradley and Terri, Jennifer and Andy, Brent and Kayla, Kari and Tylen. Through these six, she became “Grandma Lou”, the name that carried through to the next generation, her ten Great-Grandchildren: Bryanna, Kyle, Owen, married to Savannah, Kirstin and Tyler, Wyat, Emma, Ivey, Brady, Cami and Haylee. Many she babysat, and many in the neighborhood as well, grew to love “Grandma Lou’ by the name she cherished as much as each child.

“Grandma Lou” is survived by sisters Mildred and Mert, her special sister-in-law Evelyn Karns and dear friend Lentha Jay, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Lester Foor, Maynard Foor, Oren Foor and sisters Violet Weist and Winnona Pochman.

Extremely active in the Tatesville United Methodist Church, Lou was known to serve on many committees and help serve many meals, always with a smile on her face and in her heart as well. Knowing how she always made people feel welcome and loved, her family requests that instead of flowers, donations in her name be made to the HELPING HANDS FUND, c/o Tatesville United Methodist Church, 151 Methodist Church Road, Everett, PA. 15537.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 28 from 4-8 PM at the Akers Funeral Home. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at the Tatesville United Methodist Church, 151 Methodist Church Road, Everett, PA, 15537 at 11 AM, Thursday, April 29 with a visitation at the church beginning at 10 AM, Pastor Suzanne Detterline officiating. Please observe social distancing and masks.

Burial will be held at Tatesville United Methodist Cemetery.
