Lloyd was born October 19, 1930 in Everett, a son of Jacob and Pearl (Woy)
Sollenberger. On November 24, 1968 he married Lura Leitzel. She preceded him in
death on September 19, 2018. Lloyd was preceded in death by brothers Robert
(Verna), Ray (Elaine), and Ellis (Jane). He was the last surviving member of both his
immediate family and that generation of the family. He is survived by a number of
nieces and nephews and was especially glad to recently meet several great great nieces and
nephews.
Lloyd graduated from Everett High School and was a lifelong farmer, first as a dairy
farmer and later raising corn. He maintained an interest in agriculture even after retiring
from active farming. Lloyd was persistent, tenacious and resourceful in all he did.
Lloyd was a member of the Everett Church of the Brethren and served in a variety of
leadership positions at the church including Board Chair, Moderator, delegate to Annual
Conference and Financial Secretary. He served a term as Moderator for Middle PA
Church of the Brethren and was the moderator for several other congregations. Lloyd
taught Sunday School for more than 50 years.
He also enjoyed bowling on the Sollenberger Equipment team at the Elks for many
years and was a member of the Grange. He and Lura spent many weekends at the
Leitzel family cabin in Richfield. Lloyd enjoyed watching professional sports and had a
lifelong love of baseball playing in church leagues in his younger years and then
following the Pirates and professional baseball.
A memorial service will be held June 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the Everett Church of the
Brethren. Visitation for family and friends will be at 9:30.
