John Edward Baker, 70, of Hopewell, went to be with the Lord in his home on Monday, November 27, 2023. He was born on September 24, 1953 in Roaring Spring, the son of the late John Replogle “Jack” Baker and Joann Marie (Stiffler) Baker of New Enterprise.
Ed was a 1971 graduate of Northern Bedford County High School. He grew up working on his family dairy farm until he began a forty year career with Clark Contractors, Inc. He was a master craftsman and avid outdoorsman who loved hunting.
Ed was a man of great faith who loved the Lord, led by example and worked tirelessly helping his family, friends and neighbors. His hands were a gift from God, a tool that could build, mold and shape wood, lives and hearts.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Dora J. “Jeanie” (Conley) Baker. He is also survived by three children Stacy wife of Robert Snare, Tonya wife of Juan Serrato and Douglas Baker husband of Jamil Facdol; six grandchildren Lauren Bishop, Cameron Serrato, Kristen Serrato, Genevieve Serrato, Tyson Snare and Jordan Snare; three great grandchildren Hunter Bishop, Kaia Serrato, and Weston Flynn; three siblings Barbara wife of Gerald Hendricks, Brion husband of Donna Baker, Michael husband of Karen Baker and brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Carolyn Feight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-mother Mary Baker, his father and mother-in-law Luke and Doris Conley, a granddaughter Samantha Snare and a sister-in-law Suzanne (Conley) Melius.
Ed was a member of the Yellow Creek Church, where he served on the Ministerial Board for several terms, served on the Board of Trustees and was part of the church choir.
