John “Dean” Grimes, 87, of New Enterprise, PA; went to walk with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2025. He was born in Everett, PA on September 20, 1937, to the late John and Ethel (Baker) Grimes. On June 13, 1959, in Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren, he married Elmira V. (Eshelman) Grimes.
J. Dean together with his wife of sixty-five years is survived by children Kimberly S. Imes married to Jeffrey, New Enterprise, PA; Rod A. Grimes married to Kim N. (Cottle), New Enterprise, PA and Randy D. Grimes married to Valerie (Holsinger), New Enterprise, PA; seven grandchildren Corey Imes married to Nicole, Cassi Mehaffey married to Justin, Cody Grimes married to Kaitlin (Koontz), Jasmine Wade married to Jonathan, Zane Grimes married to Katie (Kennedy), Elias Grimes and Reaghan Grimes; nine great-grandchildren Chase Imes, Cooper Imes, Reese Grimes, Quinn Grimes, Briggs Grimes, Davis Mehaffey, Stella Mehaffey, Piper Wade and Ivy Wade; siblings Marcella Morgret, Darrell Grimes and Mereta Imes; and a sister-in-law Ruthann Grimes.
Dean was preceded in death by sisters Audrey F. Swope, Dolores McCarty, Joyce Tenley brothers D. Richard Grimes, Dale Grimes, and Gary Grimes; sister-in-law Alma Grimes and brothers-in-law Edwin McCarty, Rex Morgret and Richard Imes.
He was a graduate of Bedford High School Class of 1955. He was a supervisor for Bedford County DHIA before retiring. After retirement Dean offered transportation to service to the Old Order Mennonite Community for a number of years. He enjoyed watching sports, especially Pittsburgh Penguins. Dean enjoyed antique tractors, outdoor sports, and being with his family and attending large family events.
Dean was an active member of New Enterprise Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the Southern Cove Sportsman’s Club, former volunteer fireman for Southern Cove Fire Company and a former Boy Scout Leader.
Friends and Family will be received on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at New Enterprise Church of the Brethren from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service at the church.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren, 3729 Brumbaugh Road, New Enterprise, PA 16664 with Pastor Paul Snyder officiating. A time of refreshment and fellowship will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dean to the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren, 3729 Brumbaugh Road, New Enterprise, PA 16664 and Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
