John A. Foor

John A. Foor, of Everett, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Presbyterian Village in Hollidaysburg, where he had been a resident for the past few years.

John was born in Everett on June 11, 1934, the son of Oscar A. and Harriet (Linebrink) Foor. After graduating from Everett High School in 1952, John attended Gettysburg College as an ROTC candidate, graduating with a degree in Finance in 1956. He then entered the Air Force, where he was admitted to flight school training and became a pilot. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force after attaining the rank of captain and moved back to Everett with his first wife, Ann (Dehaven) Foor, to work in the family business, Everett Hardwood Lumber Company.

John continued to work at Everett Hardwood for many years. He served as a Mason at the Everett Lodge, a deacon at the First United Church of Christ, and served in other local organizations in various capacities. After his first marriage ended in divorce, he married Roberta (Thompson) Foor, and working together as a team, they built a strong family and then built the Bonanza Steak House in Breezewood. The restaurant was successful, and they expanded, opening other restaurants in locations such as State College and suburban Pittsburgh. The restaurants were quite successful in the late 1970s and through the 1980s.

After Roberta’s untimely and much too early passing in April 1990, John continued to work at Bonanza, but closed the other restaurants, maintaining only the Breezewood store. He later remarried Helen (Tiffany) Foor, who accepted his blended family with equanimity and grace. She was a nurse in Bedford County before they both ultimately retired in 2001. Helen passed in 2021.

John is survived by his brother, Robert D. Foor, and children Donald Thompson (Valerie); Karen Callaghan (Drew); Lori Struble; Elizabeth Kukanich (Eric); Richard Thompson; and Bob Tiffany (Kelly Long). Also surviving are grandchildren Erica, Greg and Olivia Kukanich; Travis Struble; Starlette and Weston Keisel; Chase and Sierra Thompson; Laura and John Callaghan; Shane Thompson and Angie Leonard, as well as many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, all three wives, son David Thompson, son-in-law Bruce Struble, and grandson Matthew Wigfield.

Friends and family will be received for a time of visitation on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Robertson officiating. 

Interment will be held privately at the Everett Cemetery.
