Joann R. (Layton) Swartzwelder

Joann R. Swartzwelder, 96, of Everett, PA; passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Pennknoll Village.  She was born on December 19, 1928 in Breezewood, PA; a daughter of the late Dewey Layton and Vivian (Rice) Layton – Whetstone.  She was united in marriage to Ralph O. Swartzwelder.  He preceded her in death in October of 1982. 

She is survived by a sister Patty Weimer of Everett and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by siblings John Layton, Ferne Foor and Ralph Layton.

Joann was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Breezewood, where she was very active.

She worked as a waitress at the Service Plaza for the Pennsylvania Turnpike, The Outlet Store in Breezewood and later working at the Breezewood Market.

She was part of the Breezewood Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for many years and volunteered at Pennknoll Village.

At Joann’s request there will be no services and she will be interred at the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Breezewood.
