Jo Ann Smith

Jo Ann Smith, 82, of Bedford, PA; passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025.  She was born on July 24, 1942 in Cumberland, Maryland; a biological daughter to the late David and Georgie (Smallwood) Martin.  She was raised by her late foster parents John and Birdie McDonald of Little Orleans, MD.  She was first married to Elmer P. Ruby of Artemas for nineteen years, he preceded her in death.  On July 24, 1988 in the Everett United Methodist Church, she was united in marriage to Wayne C. Smith.

Along with her husband she is survived by daughter Dana (Ruby) Phillps, Bedford, PA; granddaughters Mikaela Phillips and fiance Chase May, Danielle Stottlemyer; and grandsons Jason, John and Kyle Stottlemyer; two great grandchildren Ryen and Andy Williams.

She was preceded in death by three children Stephen Ruby, David Ruby and Dorothy Kirchner.

Mrs. Smith was a former member of the Everett United Methodist Church.

She cleaned homes for many people over the years, always taking pride in her work.  She enjoyed reading, and spending time with her family.  She also was a Powder Puff Race Car Driver in the early 70's. 

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Benner officiating.

Family and friends may call at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery.

If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jo Ann to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
