Jeffrey Best Obituary

Jeffrey A. Best, 66, of Yellow Creek Drive, Hopewell, PA, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022 at UPMC McGee Hospital, Pittsburgh.  He was born on February 3, 1955 in Roaring Spring, PA; a son of the late James L. and Alma M. (Henry) Best.  On July 16, 1974 in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, he was united in marriage to Gladys J. (Calhoun) Best.

Along with his wife of 47 years, he is survived by a daughter, Trish married to Dennis Weicht and two granddaughters, Lily Weicht and Emma Weicht, Everett, PA ; siblings Philip L. Best married to Wilka Ann (Wright), Breezewood PA, and William C. Best married to Mary Ellen (Mobley), Centerville, PA.

He was preceded in death by a brother James Best.

He was of the Methodist Faith.

In the early years, Jeff operated heavy equipment striping coal in Somerset PA. Then he worked in the logging business eventually becoming a self-employed owner and operator of his own trucks.  He was leased to W.C. McQuaide Inc. and LSG Trucking before branching out into the fire wood business.  He would tell anyone that J.A. Best Trucking & Firewood has become a success due in part with the help and dedication of his nephew, Jimmy and friend, Pat along with the drivers. He often said "this isn't work, it's fun!"

Jeff was one-of-a-kind who had a heart of gold and was stubborn as a mule...a hard-working and honest man who would do anything to help a friend in need.  He enjoyed working on trucks, watching football, tinkering in his garage and hunting, especially muzzleloader hunting. His pride and joy was his 1999 Kenworth. He also enjoyed farming the fields on his family's small farm. Over the years, many small children would approach him thinking he was Santa Claus.  He was so happy to play the part and put a smile on their faces. He was a great husband, dad, grandpap and friend to all who knew him and he and his great sense of humor will be greatly missed. He left behind a wonderful legacy that makes his family so proud!

At Jeff’s request there will be no services.
