Obituary

Jay E. Barron, 73, of Everett, PA; passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Bedford Nursing and Rehabilitation.  He was born on February 1, 1950 in Somerset, PA; a son of the late Floyd M. and Mary Ellen (Hetzer) Barron.  On July 27, 1974 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Lavansville, PA; he married Barbara (Murray) Barron.

Along with his wife, he is survived by sons Joseph Barron and fiancé Cheryl Imler and her son Parker Beegle, Everett and Jeffrey Barron, Everett; niece Nicholle Barron and nephew Troy Barron of Everett, who were raised in the Barron home.  He is also survived by a brother Larry Barron married to Judy (Shunk), Hagerstown, MD; mother and father-in-law Charles and Patricia (Frazier) Murray, Winter Haven, FL; brother and sister-in-law David and Carol (Miller) Murray, Somerset, Ann Barron, AZ and Marie Barron, Seattle, WA; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Jack, Tom, Floyd “Butch” and Donald Barron, sister-in-law Norma (Thompson) Barron and niece Mary Barron.

Jay was a graduate of Somerset High School Class of 1968.

Through his career he worked at Gilmore Manufacturing, Grove Manufacturing, Prowler Trailer, Seaton Manufacturing and later retiring from Orbital ATK/Allegheny Ballistics in Rocket Center, WV.

He attended Zion Lutheran Church, Everett.  He was a past member of the Somerset Volunteer Fire Department and Raystown Ambulance Service.  He was a member of the Somerset Eagles and Bedford Moose Lodge No 480, where he held many officer positions and the rank of Fellow.  He worked with the Everett Boy Scout Pack and Troop for many years, including being Cub Master and Assistant Scout Master.  He received many certificates and awards for his scouting service. 

His all-time favorite pastime was riding his motor scooter.  He spent hours with friends riding around the state.  He was a member of the Bedford Moose Riders.  He was also an avid Nascar fan.

Friends and Family will be received on Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA from 4:00 P.M. until the hour of funeral service at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers with Lay Speaker Jim Droz officiating.
