Janet Peck Obituary

Janet "Jan" Peck, 87, of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Saxton, PA, passed away at a nursing home in the Mount Vernon section of Fairfax County, VA, on November 3, 2020.  She was hospitalized in August due to a severe stroke and later died of pneumonia.

Born in Six Mile Run, she was one of two daughters of Paul and Olive (Donahoe) Himes.

A 1952 graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School, she worked at the F.B.I. headquarters in Washington, D.C., before returning to Saxton to marry George R. "Buster" Peck on January 1, 1953.

During the late 1950's and early 1960's, she worked at the D.P.A. office in Bedford.  In the mid-1960's, she moved with her husband and son to Northern Virginia, where she worked as a civil service employee for the U.S. Army until the early 1990's.  At the time of her retirement from Federal service, she was a management analyst.  She subsequently worked for a local office of Xerox Corporation in Virginia and later for the Fairfax County government.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, as well as several adoring pets.

She is survived by:  Her son, Mike, of Alexandria, VA; sister Audrey Stapleton and brother-in-law Samuel Stapleton of Enola, PA; niece Sherry Meyers and her husband Eric of Mechanicsburg, PA; nephew Brent Stapleton of Etters, PA; niece Anita Anderson and her husband Eddy of Hendersonville, TN; as well as two great-nephews, a great-niece, and various cousins.

Jan was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Alexandria, VA.

Interment will be at the Fockler Cemetery in Saxton.  A grave-side service with family and friends is being planned for Friday, November 13, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Kathy Speck officiating.  An in-church service of remembrance may be held at a later time, on a date to be determined, after the COVID-19 epidemic ends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to:  St. John's Lutheran Church, 5952 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA 22310; and/or the Saxton Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 115, Saxton, PA 16678.
