James D. Stuart, Sr.

James “Jim” Donald Stuart, Sr., 90, of Crystal Spring, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025.  Jim was born August 01, 1935 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to the late Boyd E. Stuart and Catherine M. Schaffer Stuart Farmer. 

He was a man of deep faith, with great love for his family and devoted service to his community and country.

He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Joan Davenport in 1954.  Together they raised five children in Riverdale, Maryland. 

Jim served in the United States Navy and the Marine Corp as a Navy Corpman 2nd Marine Division for the Korean War Service.  He honorably served for twelve years including the Haiti uprising and the Dominican Republic conflict.  Jim is the recipient of thirteen military decorations, among them, the Navy Marine Corp Medal for Heroism. 

Jim worked several jobs before becoming a police officer with the State of Maryland at the University of Maryland.  He retired as a Sgt. after twenty-six years of service.

Jim and Joan moved to their cabin on the mountain after retiring.  Jim made many new and now dear friends.  He was especially involved with helping veterans in many capacities.  He worked on various projects with their church and church community.  He was always quick to offer his services to help in anyway he could.  His desire to serve has always been strong. 

Jim is survived by his children Kim (Larry), Jimmy (Fran), Guy (Mary), Faith, Hope (Joe); ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren, many extended family members and dear friends. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, his parents, his brother Harry, brother-in-law Jim, sister-in-law Sara Sue, and nephews Nathan and Frank.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA  15537 with Pastor Jean Squires officiating.  Friends will be received from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service.  Military honors will be accorded by the Everett Area Honor Guard.
