James Grimes Obituary

James Edward Grimes, 85, of Everett; passed away on Thursday, June 04, 2026 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.  He was born on May 22, 1941 in Everett, PA; a son of the late Simon and Edna Jean (O’Shal) Grimes.  On April 07, 1961 in Winchester, VA: he was united in marriage to Sylvia J. (Gordon) Grimes. 

Along with his wife of sixty-five years, he is survived by his children Steve Grimes married to Kimberly, Everett, PA, Tracy Shaffer married to Bob, Cresaptown, MD, Kent Grimes married to Tammy, Clearville, PA and Scott Grimes, Everett, PA; nine grandchildren Travis, Jennifer and Lori; Robert and Andrea; Rick, Jeremy, Ronnie and Mikal; seven great grandchildren Kyle, Zach, Jordan, James, Aubrey, Jackson and Taylor; siblings Janet Triplett, Bob Grimes, Beverly Diehl married to Garvin, Janie Pittman married to Greg and Greg Grimes.

He was preceded in death by siblings Richard Grimes, Betty Snyder, Sid Grimes, Charlotte Brown and Nancy Pepple.

James grew up attending Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren.  He was the owner/operator of Grimes Dairy Farm on Lower Snake Spring Valley, which he started working on at an early age.  He was a proud, hardworking steward for over sixty years. 

He was a collector of toy tractors, enjoyed working and tinkering with Cub Cadets, going for car rides, especially to Ritchey’s Dairy for ice cream. He enjoyed watching RFDTV, Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, gospel music and rooting on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.  

Friends and Family will be received on Monday, June 08, 2026 from 4-7 P.M. at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA  15537.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 08, 2026 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Melinda Hillegass officiating.

Burial will be held privately at Ritchey Cemetery.
