Ida Smith Obituary

Ida L. Smith, 75, of Sweet Root Road, Bedford, PA; passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Pennknoll Village.  She was born on August 22, 1944 in Bedford, PA; a daughter of the late Dorothy Jane (Adams) McNutt and Harry Edward Ferguson.  On July 28, 1961, she married Gerald S. Smith.  He preceded her in death on March 29, 2016. 

She is survived by her two children Geraldine S. married to Robert Dobos of Lincoln, NE; Gerald S. Smith, Jr. of Bedford, PA; four grandchildren Daniel, Jacob and Samuel Dobos and Joshua Smith; siblings David Adams married to Sylvia, Rodney Adams, Nina Jane (Adams) married to Bryan Young and Bruce Wheeler II; sister-in-law Mary Adams; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brother Chester Adams.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Everett Seventh Day Adventist Church.  Ida volunteered for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) for 38 years.

Ida was a graduate of Bedford High School Class of 1962.  She began to work for Woodmen of the World in 1979. Ida went to “Sure Start School”, “Advanced I Underwriting School”, “Advanced II Underwriting School”, “1980 Certificate of Appreciation, 1 Million Production” and “Woodmen of the World 1980.” She received her Commonwealth of PA Notary on February 18, 1981. She received her Real Estate Int. of PA Certificate on May 1981 and Fraternal Field Managers Association in November 1981.

A private funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road Everett, PA 15537 with Head Elder Joseph Imes officiating.

Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Reformed Church Cemetery.
