Helen L. (Barkman) Mills

Helen L. Mills, 85 of Victoria Avenue, Everett, PA; passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.  She was born on January 18, 1940 in Everett, PA; a daughter of the late Alva O. and Lyda B. (Grove) Barkman.  On June 3, 1961 in Shreve’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Clearville; she was united in marriage to Charles E. Mills.  He preceded her in death on July 10, 2012.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews Carol Ward, Deborah Colledge, LaDonna Virts, Christie Weaverling, Brenda Hoffacker, Warren Barkman, Jr., Monte Colledge, Rex Clark, Thomas Barkman, Allen Barkman, Randy Clark, Kevin Barkman, Ryan Clark, several loving great nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Linda Barkman, Gail Young and brother-in-law Rodney “Dusty” Clark.

She was preceded in death by siblings William L. Barkman, Warren C. Barkman, Sr., O. Lee Barkman, M. Deloris Colledge and Ruth C. Clark; nephews Victor Barkman, Jeffrey Colledge and Terry Barkman.

She was a graduate of Everett Area High School Class of 1959.  She attended Pennwood Bible Church.  After graduating high school she worked at G.C. Murphy, besides being involved in her late husband’s excavating business.  Over the years she worked as a bookkeeper part time for various businesses, Hortons Sunoco, Weyant’s TV and Monroe Township.

Helen enjoyed attending bluegrass, country and gospel concerts, going out to eat with the ladies of Next Chapter and O.W.L.S.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Dana Umbel officiating.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at 12:00 Noon at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537.

Burial will be held at the Everett Cemetery.
