Hazel M. (Hymes) Calhoun

Hazel M. Calhoun, 90, of Monroe Street, Everett, PA; passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Rebecca’s Personal Care Home in Everett, PA. She was born on November 24, 1931; a daughter of the late Emory C. and Lucy “Myrrel” (Housel) Hymes.  She was united in marriage to Joseph A. Calhoun on April 8, 1951 in Cumberland, Maryland.  He preceded her in death on June 16, 1967.

She is survived by grandchildren Rustie P. married to Robin (Edwards) Calhoun; Travis married to Candie (Clark) Calhoun and Melissa A. married to Jason Webb; six great grandchildren Trever, Jacob, Breanna, Reuben, Chloe and Joshua.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by son Glenn J. Calhoun; brother Lawrence Hymes and infant brother.

Hazel was a member of the Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren.

She was employed at the Everett Area School District for forty-three years as head cook until her retirement in 2010.  She also worked at the Family House Restaurant in Breezewood for twenty-five years. 

She loved her chickens, going to the races and working in her flower beds.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 4-8 at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 and on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the church.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Snake Spring Valley Church of the Brethren with Pastor David Grimes officiating.

Burial will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.
