Harold "Sonny" Hess

Harold “Sonny" James Hess, 87, of James Creek, PA; passed away on Friday, January 7th, 2022 at Penn Highlands Huntingdon.  He was born on April 28, 1934 in Newburg, PA; a son of the late Elmer D. and Mary A. (Hall) Hess.  He was previously married to Shirley J. (Imler) Hess; she preceded him in death on January 18, 1988.  On November 1, 1990 in Winchester, Virginia he was united in marriage to Florence “Sis” M. Hess.

Along with his wife, he is survived by children LouAnn Shontz married to Jim, James Creek, PA; Jim Hess married to Sharon, James Creek, PA and Jenny DeLaney married to Kevin, McLapin, FL; Step-children Deb Martin married to Scott, Manchester, PA; Emily Mervin married to Bob, Saxton, PA and John Hess, Houstontown, PA; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. 

Along with his parents and first wife he was preceded in death by siblings Kenneth Hess, Maxine Hess and Carrie Edna Hess, grandson Jeffrey Hess and granddaughter Farren Hess.

Sonny attended Robertsdale High School.  After school he went on to work as a mechanic and equipment operator and eventually owned and operated his own shop along with his son.  He was affiliated with the Trough Creek Community Church.  When he wasn’t at the garage Sonny could be found hunting or fishing, listening to music, or going to auctions.  He enjoyed woodworking, doing word searches, working on cars, collecting Hess Trucks and volunteering at the fair with his daughter, LouAnn but mostly he loved spending time with his family.  

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA 16678 from 4:00 P.M. till the hour of service at the chapel.  

Funeral Service will be held on January 13, 2022 at The Akers Funeral Chapel at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Alfred Chamberlain and Pastor Tim Martin officiating. 

If friends so desire and at the request of the decedent, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sonny to the Trough Creek Community Church, 19802 Sugar Run Road, Todd, PA 16685 or the Raystown Brethren Church, 129 Winterberry Lane, Saxton, PA 16678.
