Gladys Louise Swindell, 85, of Lutzville Road, Everett, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020, at Pennknoll Village.
She was born on December 9, 1934, in Loysburg, the daughter of the late John H. and Essie (Hetrick) Freeman. She was preceded in death by one brother, John of Homer City and her husband of sixty years, J. Duane Swindell, whom she married on May 15, 1960. She is survived by two daughters: Sheila Swindell of York and Brenda (Rob) Shema of Lima, Ohio; and three grandchildren: Emily Wenger, Lindsey Shema, and Taylor Shema.
Gladys was a graduate of Replogle High School, class of 1952 and Altoona School of Commerce. She was employed by Howard Johnsons and Bedford United Methodist preschool.
Gladys enjoyed traveling. She was an active member of the Everett Church of the Brethren. She and Duane taught Sunday School there for many years.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537. We ask those in attendance to follow CDC guidelines by wearing a mask and follow social distancing.
A Private Funeral Service with Pastor Mike Benner officiating will follow.
Private burial will be at Bedford County Memorial Park.
