Fredarica "Freddie" Barkman Obituary

Fredarica “Freddie” Fontaine Barkman, of Everett, Pennsylvania, formerly of Clearville, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the age of 84. She has gone to be with her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband of 52 years, Fred J. Barkman.

Born on April 22, 1941, in Everett, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Janet (Pennell) Gilpin. She was also preceded in death by her sister Virginia P. (Gilpin) Jay and her husband Eugene Jay of Transfer, Pennsylvania.

Fredarica graduated from Everett Area High School in 1959 and then went to work at the Fairfoot Shoe Company, where she met the love of her life, Fred Barkman.  Fred and Fredarica were married on July 27, 1962, and together they lived on and operated the family farm while raising their children.    Later on she worked at Ames and as well provided home care for others.

Mrs. Barkman had a deep faith; she was a devoted member of the St. John the Evangelist Church.  She walked her faith by example and displayed it in her daily life.

Freddie loved her family deeply — her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her great‑grandchildren were the center of her world. She was a creative spirit, often found designing garden beds and koi ponds. She had a passion for photography and video choreography, and she cherished trips to the movie theater, especially to watch classic films. Freddy enjoyed playing video games with anyone willing to join her, and she loved nature, hunting, and fishing alongside her husband and family. She took great pride in working on the family farm and was known for her skill and patience with jigsaw puzzles.  She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Fredarica is lovingly remembered by her five children Mark Barkman, companion Kim Henderson; Denise (Barkman) Gillis, husband Colin Gillis; Glen Barkman, former wife Angela (Cogan) Barkman; Elaine (Barkman) Schreiber, husband Brian Schreiber; Deanna Barkman; grandchildren Justin Wagner, wife Whitney (Bivens) Wagner; Jeremy Wagner, wife Lindalle (Foore) Wagner; Samantha (Schreiber) Roy, husband Josh Roy; Andrew Schreiber, wife Reanna (Rice) Schreiber; Curtis Barkman, wife Valerie (Edwards) Barkman and Taylor (Barkman) Calhoun, husband Reuben Calhoun; great‑grandchildren Hazel Wagner; Beau Wagner, Dawson Wagner, Cade Roy, Lucy Roy, Addison Barkman and Callen Schreiber.

Fredarica is also survived by her brother Gene Gilpin and his wife Marie (Lockard) Gilpin, sister‑in‑law Jane (Barkman) Cunard and brother‑in‑law Eric Cunard of Everett, Pennsylvania, and numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives who loved her dearly.

Fredarica’s life was defined by love, creativity, family, and the simple joys she shared with those around her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
