Freda L. Hammond, 88 of Beans Cove Road, Chaneysville, PA; passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cumberland. She was born on June 26, 1932 in Chaneysville, PA; a daughter of the late Webster H. and Amanda Hazel (Walters) Trail. On November 6, 1954 in Cumberland, MD; she was united in marriage to Charles W. “Chuck” Hammond. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2019.
She is survived by children Regina married to Wilmer Williams, Clearville, PA; Charlene “Cookie” married to David Wharran, Clearville, PA and Sheila “Shelly” Mantia, Everett, PA; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her siblings, she was preceded in death by the following Merle Trail, Percy Trail, Ralph Trail, Marshall Trail, Hobert Trail, and Webster Trail, Jr and Vera Leydig.
Freda was a graduate of Everett High School in 1952. She was a bus contractor for the Everett Area School District for many years until her retirement.
Freda was a member of the Chaneysville United Methodist Church and attended El Bethel Assembly of God. She was a member of the Chaneysville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Chaneysville PTO, and the Chaneysville Senior Center. She was a former member of the William McKinley Smith Post #155 American legion Women’s Auxiliary and the Everett Area School Bus Association. She was active in selling Raffle tickets for her various organizations.
A private funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Vincent Smith officiating.
Burial will be held at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
