Fred L. Thomas

Fred Thomas, 98 of Monroe Street, Everett; passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022.  He was born on December 13, 1923 in Breezewood, PA;  the son of the late Charles and Fannie (Mench) Thomas.  On November 27, 1948 he was united in marriage to Kathleen “Kay” Potts in Cumberland, MD.  She preceded him in death.

Fred is survived by a daughter Linda Kane of Bedford PA and daughter-in-law Debra Thomas of Wilson, NC; grandchildren Kelly Kane married to Chris Jorheim, Kyle Kane married to Shannon, Jennifer married to John Simmons,  Robert II married to Kaelyn, Lisa married to Dale Shaw, Michael married to Angie, Jeanette married to Shannon Kline, Crystal married to Wesley Yokum and Matthew Thomas; great grandchildren Jarrett Brantner, Jason Zimmerman, Skylar Thomas, Trevor Thomas, Brayden Kane, Harrison Simmons, Mitchel Kline, Evelynn, Cyrus and Sadie Yokum and Jamison Thomas.

He was preceded in death by sons, James, Terry and Robert “Buck” and daughter Diana “Bubbles” and the following brothers and sisters, Marian Foor Pettengill, Mabel Thomas Smith, Benjamin Thomas, Katherine Thomas Fake, David Roy Thomas, Alma Ruth Weyant, Robert Thomas and Helen Thomas Crawford.  He is the last surviving member of his family.

Mr. Thomas was a WWII veteran who served in the U.S. Army Maintenance Company in England, France, Germany, Belgium and Luxemburg.  He earned 5 Bronze Stars.

Fred's work career began in construction. He worked his way up from laborer, to truck driver, to foreman, and then to superintendent.  He left construction and went to work at PPG Industries in Cumberland, MD until he retired.

For many years Fred enjoyed going fishing and camping with his family at Point of Rocks, MD. After retirement he and Kay enjoyed travel trips to California and Florida.

Fred will be fondly remembered for the love he had for his family—for being a good friend and neighbor, who was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Friends and Family will be received on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022  at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 with military honors held by The Everett Area Honor Guard.
