Florence "Poe Jane" (Stoler) Clapper

Florence “Poe Jane” Clapper, 98, of Martinsburg, formerly of Saxton, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025.

Born on February 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John Homer and Deliah “Dee” (Lloyd) Stoler.  On January 20, 1946, in Trinity Reformed Church in Saxton, she married Ray D. Clapper, who preceded her in death on March 21, 2008.

She is survived by her daughters Linda J. McCahan of Saxton and Judith Ann Mykut (Richard) of Martinsburg; daughter-in-law Deborah (Yingling) Clapper; and grandchildren Brett Clapper, Corey Clapper, Kurt Mykut, Elizabeth Pellicot, Matthew McCahan, and Megan McCahan Wyandt. She was blessed with great-grandchildren Andrew Clapper, Eli Clapper, Corbin Clapper, Courtney Clapper, Clayton Pellicot, Lane Pellicot, Waylon Mykut, Kacen McCahan, and Trace McCahan.

Florence was preceded in death by her son Allen R. Clapper; brother Thomas Stoler; half-brothers Jacob Lloyd and John Stoler; and half-sister Margaret Stoler Stein.

A lifelong and devoted member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Saxton, Florence was active in the Mite Society and shared her time generously. She was also a former member of the Saxton Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

A 1945 graduate of Saxton Liberty High School, Florence worked as a lab technician, first for Dr. Thomas and later for Dr. Tate. She was known for her warmth, grace, and love of life. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00 a.m., at Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA 16678. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Jill Clawson and Pastor Cliff Hammond officiating. Burial will be held privately at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Saxton.
