Ernest L. Imgrund

Ernest L. Imgrund, 95, of Manns Choice, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Colonial Courtyard in Bedford, PA.

He was born on September 5, 1930, in Juniata Township, Bedford County; a son of the late Michael L. and Catherine A. (Smith) Imgrund. On July 21, 1956, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Bedford, he was united in marriage to Dorothy "Dot" (Nave) Imgrund, who preceded him in death on May 27, 2019.

He is survived by his children Gregory E. Imgrund married to Victoria (Young), Barbara L. married to Timothy Robson, JoAnn M. married to Rodney Ferguson and Robert J. Imgrund married to Lori (Weist).  He was fondly known as "Pappy" to his grandchildren: Ashley Arnold, Jennifer Akers, Lindsay Kramzer, Kendall Ferguson, Zachary Robson, Alicia Imgrund, Michael Imgrund, Robert Imgrund, Jr., and Ali Robson; and his great-grandchildren: Lily Arnold, G. Carter Akers, Caylin Akers, Mason Mentzer, Haidyn Imgrund, Arden Kramzer, Zaydee Robson, Ellis Kramzer, Madilyn Imgrund, Harper Robson, Cormac Kramzer, and Crue Robson.

He is also survived by his siblings: Frances Tedley married to Wayne, Dorothy Wolfhope married to Gary, and Mary Grace Imgrund. He was preceded in death by siblings Mildred Diehl, John Clarence Imgrund, Colette Holsopple and Irene Imgrund.

Ernie was a faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1952–1955 during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He also served his church community in the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1439 for many years, earning the rank of 4th Degree.

He spent his career on the road driving trucks, working for Eastern Express, Kelly Springfield, and later for McQuade until his retirement.

Ernie was known for his incredible green thumb and generous spirit. He took great joy in planting and working in his garden, and nobody could stop by his house without going home with some of his fresh produce. He also planted cornfields and shared his harvest with his Manns Choice neighbors. Anyone who stopped by to get "Ernie’s corn" knew he would head out to the field to meticulously pick each ear himself, always offering a friendly conversation along with it. Another of his great passions was tending to his beautifully manicured flower beds, which were always meticulously cared for, especially his prized geraniums.  He also raised a small herd of beef cattle on his farmette and took pride in being able to provide beef for his family.   Ernie never met a stranger and was always ready to help a neighbor in need.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M.  The Knights of Columbus will hold a rosary service at 6:00 P.M.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with Father Richard Tomkosky officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
