Erma A. (Wright) England, 99, of Everett, PA; passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023 at Homewood in Martinsburg. She was born on February 22, 1924 in Wells Tannery, PA; the oldest child of the late Albert Silas and Ruby E. (Warsing) Wright. On October 5, 1945 in Winchester, VA; she was united in marriage to Samuel Earl England Jr., who passed away on July 26, 2009. They were married for sixty three years.
She is survived by two daughters Sandra A. married to Michael Short, Everett and Denise Kay England married to Donald Foor, Bedford; three grandchildren Tori, Mandie and Kyle; four great grandchildren Haille, Stella, Samuel and Xavier; a brother Bob Wright and wife Rita and a sister-in-law Barb Wright.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Norman “Jake”, Gerald, Lester, Kenny, Vivian Wright, Maxine Means, Geraldine Cook and an infant sister. Also a grandson, Decan Thomas Devoe.
Erma retired from Post House Gift Shop after many years working at Hedstrom. She was one of the first employees Hedstrom hired when they built their plant in Bedford. She enjoyed being on the Hedstrom bowling team. When her girls were young, Erma and Sam owned horses and enjoyed trail riding in Bedford County, especially Martin Hill.
Erma enjoyed growing houseplants and flowers in her many flowerbeds. Roses, zinnias, and petunias were among her favorites. She got her love for growing plants from her Daddy who she dearly loved. Another source of pleasure was painting ceramics. Every Friday, she and her sister Maxine would paint a variety of holiday ceramic decorations to display in their homes.
Erma was a great cook and baker. She enjoyed making large meals for her family and topping them off with homemade desserts. She kept the cleanest home, scrubbing walls every spring and polishing hardwood floors. Erma was a member of the Everett Church of the Brethren.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Benner officiating.
Friends may call at Akers Funeral Home, Raystown Road, Everett, PA, on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery.
