Elliott Detwiler, Jr. Obituary

Elliott Detwiler Jr., 75, was called by God to eternal life on April 27, 2020 from his home in James Creek Pa.

Elliott was born on June 10, 1944, in Everett, a son of the late Elliott and Elma (Ritchey) Detwiler.

He is survived by his former wife, Mona Detwiler, and their children, Brenda Yohn and Robert Detwiler; life partner Janet Donaldson; two grandchildren Robbie and Ryan that call him Pap and six great grandchildren, 2 of which he warns have driving permits. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry Ritchey.

Elliott was a member of the Class of 1962 from NBC High School where he played football and basketball.  After high school he moved to the Greater Harrisburg area to become a VW parts manager where employees and customers were his primary focus; represented by the countless plaques and awards that cover his wall.  After retiring from the VW parts business, he couldn’t relax without working so he decided to paint lines on highways.  He told many people that watching paint dry wasn’t as easy as you may think.

Elliott was a founding father and life member of the Silver Springs Ambulance and Rescue Assoc. in New Kingstown, Pa.; a life member of Penn Township Volunteer Fire company in Newville, Pa.; a member of the Marklesburg fire company and member of St. Paul’s United Church in Yellow Creek. Elliott donated his time to every organization that his family participated in from Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to girls’ softball and boys’ baseball.

Those who knew Elliott will tell you that he was a kind and considerate man with a calling to help others.  He spent many of hours traveling to private homes and nursing homes to visit people that just needed their spirits lifted knowing that someone really cared.  He had a good sense of humor and will be missed by many.

Private Services will be held per COVID-19 Rules and Regulations.   Burial will be at Yellow Creek Reformed Cemetery.
