Doris E. (Black) Dilling

Doris Edna (Black) Dilling, 88, of Raystown Road, Hopewell, PA; passed into the eternal arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at home.  She was born on December 21, 1933 in Dudley, PA; daughter of the late Simpson Breckenridge and Sarah Edna (Bollman) Black.  On June 10, 1952 she was united in marriage to Dale C. Dilling in their home.

She was the devoted wife of Dale for over seventy years as well as cherished mother of  Dr. Duane Dilling married to Trudy; Diane Clapper married to Darrell; Deana; and Deron Dilling married to Bonnie; grandchildren Haley, Deidre, Dana, David, Daniel, Davis, Devin, Dale, Katie, Daulton, Darcy, Logan, Carson and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren Addelyn, Rylan, Josiah, Levi, Evelyn and Caralyn; siblings Galen Black and Marlene Brumwell.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by granddaughter Hillary; siblings Mabel Dilling, Ruby Calhoun, Alberta Foor, Donald Black, Helena Perrin, Martha Foor, Arnold Black and Gary Black.

Mrs. Dilling was a graduate of Saxton Liberty High School Class of 1951.  Prior to spending her working years taking care of her family and home she worked as a secretary.  She was on the board of the Pennsylvania Rural Letter Carriers Association (PRLCA) Auxiliary for two years and served as Junior Sponsors with Dale for the PRLCA for ten years.

She was a member of the Stonerstown Church of the Brethren. 

Doris enjoyed sewing and other needle crafts; she had a love of flowers and spent many hours of enjoyment watching her hummingbirds at their feeders.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, PA 16678 from 5-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the church.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the Stonerstown, Church of the Brethren at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mary Garvey officiating, followed by a memorial luncheon held at the church.

Burial will take place privately at The Everett Cemetery.
