Donald Ray Dodson

Donald Ray Dodson, 91, of Raystown Road, Hopewell, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.  He was born on February 7, 1932 in Hopewell, PA; a son of the late Harry and Marietta (Spiker) Dodson.  On August 13, 1955 in Winchester, VA, he was united in marriage to Margaret Lucille (Koontz) Dodson.  She preceded him in death on November 5, 2015.

He is survived by children: Steven Dodson married to Loretta (Corle), Macungie, PA and Julie (Dodson) Agnew, Blandon, PA; daughter-in-law Maryellen (Ahern) Dodson, West Chester, PA; grandchildren:  Elizabeth Dodson, Sarah (Dodson) married to Chris Beach, Margaret (Dodson) married to Michael Savard, Gillian, Audrey and Rileigh Agnew; great grandchildren Samuel Beach, Benjamin Beach, Melanie Savard and Thomas Savard; sisters Shirley Deshong married to Arthur and Donna Jean Horton married to Chester.

He was preceded in death by a son Donald Lynn Dodson; siblings Paul Dodson, Robert Dodson, Olive Clark, Ann Hunt, Marie Say, Fred Dodson and Louise Dodson.

Don was affiliated with the Hopewell Grace Brethren Church.  He was a graduate of Robert P. Smith High School Class of 1950.  Don served in the United States Army as a corporal from 1953-1955.

He was a surveyor by trade.  He was employed for PennDOT for twenty-five years and later working for Inspection Engineers of Johnstown until his retirement in 1990.

He was a former member of the Loysburg Lions Club and was a member of the Southern Cove Power Reunion and the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors.

Don enjoyed woodworking, beekeeping and the memorable trips across the country with his wife.  He enjoyed his antique Oliver tractor and his Model A car.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Lingenfelter officiating.

Friends will be received on Friday, September 2, 2023 from 5-7 P.M. at the Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

Burial will be held at the Loysburg Cemetery.
