Charles Edward Fazekas, 88, of Woodbine, NJ passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Charlie graduated from New Brunswick High School, NJ, class of 1955. He raised his family in Piscataway, NJ before later settling in Woodbine.
Throughout his life, Charlie found joy behind the wheel of a racecar, in the sky as a pilot, and in the garage restoring and repairing automobiles. His exceptional craftsmanship in upholstery for vintage car restoration was award-winning. As a self-employed, licensed contractor, he worked with his hands and took great pride in everything he built and fixed.
Charlie’s deep and abiding faith was the foundation of his life, guiding the way he lived and loved others. As a devoted member and elder of his church, he was committed to serving others and sharing God’s love in both word and deed. He had a remarkable gift for connecting with people, offering guidance, encouragement and steady support. A mentor to many, Charlie was known not only for his kindness, generosity and compassionate spirit, but for the lasting, life-changing impact he had on those who knew him. Many have said, “Charlie changed my life”, and this is how he will be remembered. Above all, he cherished his precious family.
Charlie was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Jean Fazekas, his daughter, Lisa; and his parents, Charles and Helen Fazekas.
He is survived by his three daughters, Daryl Patterson (Robert) of Bedford, PA, Robyn DiLeo of Green Brook, NJ, and Karen Muller (Michael) of Branchburg, NJ. Charlie is also survived by nine grandchildren: Andrea Mitton (Patrick), Daniel Patterson (Maggie), Mark Patterson (Angela), Dominic DiLeo, Matthew DiLeo (Gabriella), Elena DiLeo, Robert DiLeo, Elizabeth Muller, and Andrew Muller; as well as five great grandchildren.
