Catherine F. (Fleck) Hastings

Catherine F. Hastings, 96, of Riddlesburg, PA; passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Homewood at Martinsburg, PA. She was born on December 18, 1923 in Riddlesburg, PA; a daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Taylor) Fleck. On December 26, 1945 in Huntingdon, PA, she married William R. "Bib" Hastings. He preceded her in death February 16, 2010.

She is survived by children William E. Hastings (Kelly), Mill Hall, PA and Kathi (Dan) Scheuermann, Monroeville, PA; four grandchildren Daniel Hastings (Nicole) and Anna Hastings, Alecia Scheuermann and Angelina Scheuermann.

After graduation from Broad Top High School, Catherine earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg State Teachers College. She worked in the Tussey Mountain School District as a fourth grade teacher then became an elementary reading specialist for over twenty years until retirement. She was known as the bookmobile lady, a position which gave her many fond memories.

She was a member of the Saxton United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women.

After retirement, she and Bib traveled extensively by train, ocean liner, plane and auto. Catherine also enjoyed many hobbies: photography, bird watching, the Audubon bird count, and wildflowers, but most important to her was her family and especially her grandchildren.

Private Funeral Services will be held due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery, Saxton.

If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Catherine to the Saxton Library or the Saxton United Methodist Church.
