Betty Ruth Holmes Armstrong, a Registered Nurse and beloved sister and friend, passed away from Alzheimer's disease on June 2, 2020, at Prestige Assisted Living in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Born on September 9, 1927, in Saxton, Pennsylvania, she was the oldest of three children to the late Mary S. and Rueben L. Holmes.
Betty graduated from Saxton Liberty High School in 1945 and Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland, as a Registered Nurse in 1957. She was married to Roy C. Armstrong in 1947. Betty retired from nursing, a career she loved, in San Pedro, California, as a nursing supervisor with 30 years of service. After retiring, Betty, Roy, and her mother, Mary Holmes of Saxton, Pennsylvania, moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona, to be closer to her brother, Edward L. Holmes.
Preceding her in death were her father, Rueben L. Holmes, 1971, her husband, Roy C. Armstrong, 1991, her mother and brother (Mary S. Holmes and Edward L. Holmes), 1996, and her nephew, Stephen Holmes (Maryland), 2016. She is survived by her sister Darlene A. Willison (husband, Ronald V. Willison) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, her two nieces Devra Harvey and Julia Moore of Virginia, and her two nephews, Timothy Kevin Holmes of Virginia and Bradley Holmes of Maryland, along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Betty, who did not have children, was deeply and generously involved in her family and friends' lives. Those who knew Betty knew her love for travel, fine events, jewelry, and china. Betty will be buried in Grandview Cemetery in Saxton, Pennsylvania. Online condolences may be expressed at www.akersfuneralhome.com.
