Arlene F. (Mearkle) Newman

Arlene F. Newman, 90, of East Mattie Road, Breezewood, PA; passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024.  She was born on September 2, 1934 in Clearville, PA; a daughter of the late Guy Thomas Mearkle and Virginia E. (Smith) Mearkle.  On May 11, 1957 in Winchester, VA; she was united in marriage to Charles Edgar Newman.  He preceded her in death on February 11, 2022.

She is survived by a son Dewayne Thomas Newman married to Carol, Duncansville, PA; grandson Thomas Newman married to Lisa, Staunton, VA; granddaughter Catherine Newman, Altoona; great granddaughter Clara Newman; and siblings Floyd Mearkle married to Betty, Everett and Victor Mearkle, Clearville.

She was preceded in death by son Victor Charles Newman and a sister-in-law Connie Mearkle.

Arlene worked for the Everett Area School District for over thirty years as a cook, retiring in 2010.

She was a member of the Everett Grace Brethren Church.   Arlene enjoyed gardening, cooking, pie baking and working around her home.  She was devoted to reading her bible and studying her daily devotions. 

Arlene cherished her time spent with family and grandchildren.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the Everett Grace Brethren Church, 14 West Main Street, Everett, PA 15537.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Everett Grace Brethren Church with Pastor Melvin VanOrman officiating.

Burial will be held at Stevens Chapel Cemetery.
